Still unemployed.  Contemplating TEFL certification in Greece just to have me doing something.  I'm not sure, though.  I'm loathe to leave my state, let alone my country, even if it is falling apart.    I can't believe I'm 25 (turned that on the 2nd) and it's September, the air is getting cold, and I'm not doing anything this month that has academic meaning.  I feel like I should already be sweating over a paper that's due or piles of reading I have to get through.  But no.  I'm trying not to be too down on myself.

It's almost optimistically better that I'm not employed.  A few days after my birthday I grew sick and then I got a raging ear infection that decided to throw a party and invite all its bacterial friends to join.  :(  The memory of Thursday, September 8th is a blur because of the infection running rampant.  Thankfully, I got myself medicated (and still am) and it was fine after a few days. :D So fine that this past Wednesday my ear was able to handle The Big 4 concert at Yankee's Stadium.  The Big 4 being Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, and Metallica.  :headbang:  It was an awesome show.  I also just snagged up tickets today to go see Trans-Siberian Orchestra in December.    Anyway, I wouldn't have been able to work with my head feeling like it had been cleaved in two and that would have set me up for failure to be like that the first week of school.  :fear:

Other than STILL searching for a teaching position (HAH! After August it's a joke) I have been frequenting my Renaissance Faire to keep me sane.  It's been working. :) I'm blessed to have such good friends up there.

Otherwise, not much else to chat about.  My photography has been lax as of late and I'm desperately trying to edit the massive amount of photos that are clogging my hard drive.  I made it to January of this year.  Maybe I can eventually make it to the road trip photos. :lmao:

That's all for now, methinks.  Maybe something cool will happen in my life and the next update will be a bit more exciting.

Thanks for reading! :highfive:

Anime Series Review: Death Note by: Mamoru Miyano - The Death Note series is, in a word, about power. The book in which the series is named after is normally a possession of what is called a "shinigami" also known as a "death god" in our language. They, unfortunately, have this unique negligence when it comes to their Death Notes. They tend to lose them. Once lost they become visible to the human eye and can be scooped up by any passer-by at which point in time the powers of the Death Note are then in their hands. In this case, the Death Note falls into the hands of one Yagami Light. Light is an uncommonly smart young man who is rather innocent at first. His fall from innocence comes from using the book and his interactions with the shinigami who once possessed it: Ryuk. Ryuk is an interesting character. Though he looks fearsome, he is rather fond of apples (Garden of Eden anyone?) and he is there to lighten the mood for a good portion of the series (Misa, Light's girlfriend who is only his girlfriend so that he can use her, also becomes a comical character).

The book comes with instructions on how to use it and Light gives it a try. The main purpose is to, simply, kill. Once Light realizes that it does just that he begins to formulate the idea of a perfect world. A world without crime or jails because all insurrections are punishable by death from the one wielding the Death Note. He takes on the pseudonym Kira and a game of wits begins. Light's father is a police officer and he begins working with L, who is an exceptionally bright young man with bags under his eyes and a desire for all things sweet tasting. To make things worse Light also joins forces with L and his father to capture Kira while at the same time redirecting L's attentions and trying to throw him off his trail. This creates for a nail biting, edge of your seat, series that gets better with each episode.

Light becomes lost in what Kira represents and his innocence is completely swallowed up in the possession of power. Others, as the series progresses, also gain this power and it is seen as being used in many different ways. The peculiarities of the series is that even though we know what Kira/Light is doing is wrong we root for him. Wouldn't we, also, want to create a world where you didn't have to be afraid to walk out of your house? And yet it's just another form of being a killer. He, too, is a mass murderer and should be held responsible by his own tactic.

The allure of this series comes from this pull of emotions and from the brilliant dance between L and Light as they come ever closer to the apex of contact. There's never a dull moment!  :star::star::star::star::star:
